Microcement vs large-format tiles in renovation
Microcement and large-format tiles can both create a clean contemporary interior. The right choice depends less on trend and more on substrate, waterproofing, detailing, maintenance and execution quality.
Start with the substrate
Both finishes need stable, well-prepared surfaces. Large-format tiles demand flatness, correct adhesive systems and careful handling. Microcement needs compatible layers, controlled moisture and a disciplined application process. Neither finish should be used to hide a weak base.
Think about joints, corners and movement
Large tiles reduce visible joints but make cuts and alignment more important. Microcement creates a continuous look but still needs correct treatment at corners, drains, thresholds and movement points. Bathrooms and terraces need waterproofing decisions before the finish is chosen.
Maintenance is part of design
A finish that looks perfect in a showroom may behave differently in a rental apartment, family bathroom or coastal house. Cleaning routines, scratches, repairs and future access should be discussed with the owner before the design is approved.
Use samples and mockups for final decisions
Photos are not enough for colour, texture and slip feel. BLDR.HR connects interior design with execution so the chosen finish fits the project, budget and maintenance reality.
